Much accomplished last week!
This past week in Math, we focused on showing the relationship of all four mathematical operations. It was great to see the students relating the operations and using the vocabulary in their rational. For this week, we will continue our discussion and reviewing exponents and the order of operations. We will also begin exploring the beginning stages of Algebra.
Last week we wrapped up Unit #3 Week #3 study. We launched our explanatory essay. For this coming week we will be looking at stories and discussion that focus on milestones. The question we will be asking is, "How can one person affect the opinions of others". Spelling will return with the focus on words that have prefixes. In grammar we will begin discussion on linking verbs. Students will continue to write their explanatory essay. Please encourage your child to stay on pace with this paper.
This week we will be wrapping up our discussion on natural hazards and shifting to natural disasters.
Students are wrapping up their findings on "How Earthquakes Occur". Study guides are coming out on Monday and a test has been planned for Wednesday. Following this test our focus will shift to the water cycle and how energy is transferred.
This week we will be reading chapters 3 and 4 in Gathering Blue. Students are responding to this classroom read on a writing and reading response packet. This packet counts as a reading and writing check point for their conference report. Students who have the book are permitted to use the book during the read.
Quarter #3 is coming to close soon on April 12. Please encourage your child to be checking their grades. The window to move or change these grades is closing.
In room #14 we have focused on Grit and Gratitude. Our focus will now shift to Social Intelligence. We will be discussing this topic and identifying students that use it!

This is such a great time, that our 6th graders can read books to our kindergarteners. I am always impressed with how our 6th graders take such a leadership role during this task.
Book orders are coming home this week! The book orders are geared for 6th grade and middle school students. I do encourage that students have books for their morning reading scans.
